Dreams of Harlem Play

Dreams of Harlem is a brilliantly written play that travels back in time to the 1929 Harlem Renaissance. In 2018, Author Wright… part-time film instructor and struggling writer, known to his family and friends as AW, wishes he could go back in time and meet the idols of the past, such as: the writers, Zora Neal Hurston, Langston Hughes, singers, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, jazz musicians, Louis Armstrong, Valaida Snow and his idol, the first African American filmmaker, Oscar Micheaux. AW’s wish comes true when he goes to sleep and wakes up on the streets of Harlem in 1929. AW is fascinated with this experience, yet he realizes he must get back to 2018 because he has made a deal with a thug named Squeeze to produce his latest film, and this choice may have put his family and friends in danger. However, with the help of a praying wife, AW not only fulfills his destiny, but realizes the importance of making the right choices.

50% of all profits benefits’ the United Way of the CSRA Children and Families.

This is a story about being encouraged to never give up on your dreams, and remembering the people that have helped you in your life’s journey.
